Blackened Mahi Mahi has incredible flavor! You can eat it alone, or use it in blackened Mahi Mahi tacos. But, knowing how to easily blacken Mahi can sometimes be challenging. For example, in my tutorial How to Blacken Mahi Mahi, I walk you through step-by-step on how to blacken Mahi using high heat and a cast iron skillet. This method ensures you get a nice crispy blackened crust, however, it can also leave you with a smoky kitchen!

Recipe FAQs and Variations
Is blackened fish burnt?
No! It may look burnt, but the blackened color is actually the charred spices combined with the cooking oil.
Is blackened seasoning hot?
This blackened seasoning in particular does carry a little kick of heat, but it’s not intolerable.
Will blackened Mahi Mahi get crispy in the oven?
While you’ll still get the delicious flavors of blackened Mahi in the oven, you won’t get a crispy outside crust when oven-baking. To get that crust, you’ll need to pan sear, which I show you how to do in my how to blacken Mahi Mahi tutorial.

Easy and delicious, because of the heat from the cayenne, served with mango salsa. Yummy!

This is amazing! It didn’t even make it to the plate. I was eating it out of the pan! I had also sliced an onion and a bell pepper. I had made 1/2 the recipe since it’s just me.

The spices never got dark but the fish tasted good so it was a win.

Are we coating both sides in the olive oil before applying the seasoning, or just one side?

Jennifer
Thank you for catching that, it’s been fixed within the recipe.

I don’t see it anywhere in the recipe, do we or do we not coat both sides with oil first?
Jennifer
